"Arts centre building set to go in new plan" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:36:59

THREE possible options for the Bournemouth displace for Community Arts place have been unveiled - and all of them bear on demolishing the existing building. Residents are being asked to convey a view on three options - selling the Haviland Road place in Boscombe to a housing association selling it to a private developer or entering into a partnership arrangement with a housing association to build affordable housing a day centre and offices. The consultation dashes hopes that the 100-year-old building could be refurbished. According to the council this possibility was considered but rejected it because the existing buildings are in such a poor state of repair. Leader of the council Stephen MacLoughlin said: "We recognise that this is an important site for Boscombe. "The options we are consulting on designate the be for housing in the area and the potential opportunity to give council services from the centre of the community. "I really wish that residents and interested organisations will take this opportunity to let us experience their views." If the site is sold to a housing association this will prove in a scheme for 100 per cent affordable flats. If it is sold to a private developer. 30 per cent of the flats will be affordable and the rest sold on the open market. The third option - a partnership arrangement - will see a day centre built on the site to replace existing facilities in the Boscombe and Southbourne area that give services for people with physical disabilities and mental health problems. It could also be used be people with learning difficulties and would be available for community use in the evenings and at weekends. The offices would provide accommodation for council staff and there may also be lay to let to voluntary groups. Residents undergo two weeks to examine the options at Boscombe library and complete a feedback create. I wish the Council won’t eat up yet again. My fears are that:100% “affordable flats” = hunt hutch accommodation with no gardens or parking. Private Developer = 30% “affordable housing” snapped up by buy to let spivs. Partnership arrangement = Day displace etc …. but this would replace facilities provided elsewhere in town so expect the “developers” to move in on these other sites. Sorry to sound so negative but I undergo no faith in our Council. I hope the Council won’t eat up yet again. My fears are that:100% “affordable flats” = rabbit hutch accommodation with no gardens or parking. Private Developer = 30% “affordable housing” snapped up by buy to let spivs. Partnership arrangement = Day Centre etc …. but this would regenerate facilities provided elsewhere in town so expect the “developers” to act in on these other sites. Sorry to appear so contradict but I undergo no faith in our Council. The chances of getting affordable housing that has gardens and parking in that move of Boscombe is nil. The only type ordain be 1 or 2 bed hunt hutches. Personally I evaluate a new Community Centre with a Community Theatre attached is the beat idea. But I would put money on it going to a "local social landlord " to build rabbit hutches on! The chances of getting affordable housing that has gardens and parking in that move of Boscombe is nil.
