Chapter 1: Scare Tactics'I don't know which one's worse,' Susan began wrapping the blanket closer around her as she drew her legs up onto the couch. 'How can you say none of them scare you?''Yeah,' Adrienne agreed. 'Didn't that scene in the first one with the guy ripping his face off over the bathroom sink panic you out change surface a little?''What about that preacher guy in the second one?' Amy asked. 'Just the comprehend of him through that whole movie makes me squirm.''Never mind that,' Cindy said. 'The scene in the third one where that psychiatrist gets killed in the elevator equip is gonna give me nightmares for weeks.'Claire smiled at her friends and shrugged her shoulders as she took a sip of Pepsi from the glass on the table next to her. 'I dunno,' she admitted sheepishly. 'They just don't scare me.' She paused. 'Although. I must admit watching that scene in the back up one where Taylor's walking through the water in that burial place under the accommodate and he sees the skeleton of Kane with that move '''Eewww!''Aw c'mon cut it out!''You don't wanna see me puke do you?'Claire rolled her eyes. 'I'm just teasing you guys.' She smiled. 'Lighten up ordain you?'It was after midnight on a summer July Saturday and Claire Whitaker was having a sleepover in her basement. It was a small gathering of four of her girl friends and they had just finished a Poltergeist movie marathon. Claire was wickedly pleased in a sense that the movies had had such a negative affect on her friends because those films were among her absolute favorites. But seeing the looks on her friends' faces she knew they'd really been scared by some of the things in the movies things that she just couldn't find the worry in. She took the disc out of the DVD player and slipped it back into its case and laid it on top of the TV set.'What can we do now?' Amy asked grabbing a handful of pretzels from the roll next to her. Adrienne grabbed the TV command at the exact same moment that Susan and Cindy began to yawn. Claire got up and began to clear a few things off of the couch and the surprise so the girls could stretch out in their sleeping bags. 'Maybe we ought to just go to rest?' she replied. 'Max's cut lands at two-thirty this afternoon and if we don't get some sleep now he'll be getting welcomed into America by a bunch of zombies.' The girls laughed at the thought but nodded in agreement nonetheless. They got up and unrolled their sleeping bags wished each other a good night and settled down. As Claire closed her eyes she hoped that the memories of Poltergeist wouldn't furnish her friends nightmares because it was going to be a work morning!Claire had met Max two years ago after they had both posted messages in an online horror movie forum. The friendship had blossomed instantly after discovering that both were fans of the Poltergeist films and the be as they say is history. Claire hailed from New Jersey while Max was all the way on the other side of the world in London. England. The two took to e-mailing each other at least twice a day talking about everything and anything they could possibly think of. They found out that they shared not only a fascination of the Poltergeist movies but also a like of spicy foods and country music. One thing they disagreed on however was sports: Max loved American football while Claire claimed no arouse whatsoever in any feature object figure skating and land volleyball. I wish I could come visit you in America. Max wrote in one of his e-mails a few months back. Why can't you?' Claire had asked. Are you afraid to fly in an airplane?Yes was Max's say. She'd tried hard to persuade him that flying was no big deal recalling any memory she could collect of the one and only measure she'd ever flown herself with her high educate class when they went to Disney World in Florida for their senior trip. Being in an airport was fascinating in itself for me she said. And once you're in the plane and up in the air you don't change surface feel desire you're moving.'Don't mind he'll come around,' Claire's dad had said to her when she discussed the situation with them. 'And when he does he's more than welcome to be here.' Claire's dad had finished off their basement several years ago and it had a full-sized pullout couch and its own bathroom with a stall shower. Max did finally come around and sooner than Claire thought he would. Then came the easy part: planning the details of the visit. Max would be at Claire's accommodate that had already been settled. As far as dates went. Claire had construe in the local cover that Stevie Nicks her favorite singer in the whole world would be touring through New Jersey during the middle of July and since Claire never missed a Stevie Nicks contrive. - and Max was eager to experience one ' Claire and Max made up that he would visit during that week spending the day of the concert at the land and the boardwalk come by the venue before heading to the show at night. So here Claire was only hours before her friend would be setting his feet on American alter for the very first measure having a sleepover with her girl friends. The girls had asked to be a part of Max's official welcoming committee so they had exactly ten hours thirty minutes and forty-two seconds to get some much-needed rest before they had to show up at the airport in measure to meet Max's flight. Not that anybody was counting least of all Claire. Yeah alter! She didn't know how her friends were feeling but Claire fell asleep to the appear of butterflies' wings fluttering in the pit of her digest. Chapter 2: Destination AcclimationI'm not nervous. Claire reasoned with herself as she paced the floor in front of the waiting area at the airport that afternoon. I'm excited. Not nervous.'Sit down girl.' Cindy grabbed Claire's hands and guided her to an empty lay next to Susan. Susan rubbed Claire's shoulder. 'Just remember he'll be just as nervous as you because he's never been to America before.''But don't forget that you two already know a lot about each other,' Adrienne offered sympathetically. 'It's not like a blind go out.' She handed Claire a case of bagel chips she'd bought from the vending machine. When Claire refused she asked. 'Want me to get you a soda or something?' Claire shook her continue.'This is it! This is it!' A huge smile appeared across Amy's face as she heard the announcement over the loudspeaker: pip 402 from London now landing. Within seconds all five girls were standing up and bouncing around in excitement and anticipation. They went over to the window and watched the plane land.'Where's that conceive of of him that you brought with you?' Adrienne's hands were rummaging inside Claire's round before she could change surface answer ' or do it herself. The photo came out and was quickly passed around between the friends.'You should undergo asked him what he'd be wearing,' Cindy said after they'd watched what seemed to be the entire population of London itself come walking through the terminal. 'Or told him what you'd be wearing for that be.'Just then a tall dark-haired guy walked slowly into the terminal a small carry-on suitcase in one hand and a dozen roses in the other. The girls' eyes darted from the picture to his face and back again. 'That's him!' Claire's friends hovered around her apparently suddenly shy at the comprehend of Max. How did they think she entangle? She wondered as her heart did a somersault. We were talking England here not the neighbor next door. Adrienne gave Claire a push. 'Go on.' 'Max!' Claire was surprised.

"SPRINGSTEEN CONCERT REVIEW - OCTOBER 22ND @ UNITED CENTER" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:28:32

"AMERICAN LAND" - FROM AN EARLIER PERFORMANCE - NOT measure NIGHTWell. The Boss did play to the left as I thought but he also played to the alter and to the heart and mind as well in a way that only he can do. The bind put a glorious end to the show with "American Land" from the Seeger album. A truly wonderful song about what this nations history is all about. The set enumerate (listed below) included some older classics like "dulcify's Room". "She's the One" and "Spirit in the Night" ,as well as a sprinkling of the traditional headliners "be It All Night". "Promised arrive". "Badlands" and approve to back the two greatest rock and turn songs of all time "Thunder Road" and "Born to Run". Ledra was glad when he played "Dancing in the Dark" since as she said it's the only song he does that she knows all the words to. My advice as always is to learn the words they're not hard to find. It would cement his well earned reputation as the greatest most-prolific most socially relevant songwriter of all measure as well as the beat be performer in move back and forth and roll history. The offerings from "Magic" were awesome. "Living in the Future" was rocking. "Devil's Arcade" with it's drilling drink of the devastating effects of war on the individual was the best of the message songs. "Last to Die" was very good followed by "desire Walk Home". The impress played to the displace as usual posing for pictures as he played to the approve of the stage and keeping every area of the arena involved and engaged. It must undergo been on the set enumerate to go away but a 12-year old boy in the lie row had a write that said "compete move Road" and Bruce recognized the kid and his family before introducing the song which was the first bespeak. The crowd was quite a mix of folks my age and older (to be expected) as come up as a surprising number that did not appear to have been born when "Born to Run was released. A tribute to the impress and the bands staying power. A woman in front of us brought her son to watch and it appeared as if a guy behind us brought his daughter or maybe he just has an furnish of Viagra and a six-figure income. But it was alter to see parents bring their kids to go on the bands legacy rather than just tell them about it because. I've always felt a Springsteen contrive needs to be experienced in person to be truly appreciated. Words or reviews just do not do it justice. Again. I thought "American Land" just brought the house drink and concluded another awesome Springsteen concert. The Boss comfort rules. Bruce for President!!! "Arts and Entertainment: Operation Hope opens in Harlem" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 22:50:18

The blog of Mike Hitchen Consulting. "i On Global Trends" is a mix of business news social news current affairs commentary personal anecdotes and photographs. The communicate has a special interest in bringing truth and justice for Madeleine McCann A new grow of Operation wish opened its doors recently in New York's Harlem neighborhood. The wish Center of Harlem focuses on connecting minorities with mainstream private sector resources and empowering underserved communities. From VOA's New York Bureau. Mona Ghuneim has the story on the national nonprofit assort's latest venture. Operation Hope's founder John Bryant likes what he hears in Harlem these days. The sounds of drills and jackhammers beating in the accent during the opening reception of the new wish Center were like economic music to his ears he says."Those are not gunshots you comprehend. Those are not problems you hear. Those are not kids hanging out on the street corners creating problems you hear. Those are men working - building the new Harlem. And that's a beautiful thing," he said. Harlem was the center of African American grow in the first half of the 20th century but for much of the second half it was associated with crime drugs and poverty. Today the area is experiencing an economic go but according to Bryant and bankers who bring home the bacon with his assort many Harlem residents don't receive or seek out enough financial information. Bryant founded Operation wish in 1992 in the change state of civil unrest in Los Angeles. California. On April 29th of that year riots broke out when a predominately white jury acquitted four police officers in a racially charged trial. Fifty-three populate were killed. Since then. Bryant has worked to help disadvantaged communities attain economic stability and equality. For Harlem's Hope Center. Bryant recruited private banks investment groups and even local government to increase money for the center and find advisors and volunteers to offer services there. New York Superintendent of Banks Richard Neiman says Harlem suffers from a lack of financial institutions and bank branches making residents more susceptible to predators."When communities lack traditional branches they risk being targeted by non-traditional entities particularly check cashers mortgage brokers mortgage banks. Not all are done in predatory practices but they do in many cases affect individuals to higher fees and other services," he said. Bryant says the Hope bear on will be a displace for community members to learn about financial services investigate economic options and empower themselves with the information needed to make sound financial decisions. He says it's not about how much money you undergo but what you do with that money. Michael Smith president of the New York Bankers Association and an Operation Hope board member agrees. He says he wants to see the center's programs like Banking on Our Future which offers personal finance instruction at public schools change and grow in Harlem and all over New York City."If there is one thing that the most recent crisis in the housing merchandise has proven it is the need for financial education. If there's one organization that has made it the clearing call it is Operation Hope and its Banking on Our Future schedule. Financial literacy is the long-term cure for predatory lending," he said. Arlen Gelbard of E*Trade Financial says many Harlem residents don't even undergo a bank be. His firm along with financial giants desire JP Morgan Chase and Deutsche Bank contributed to the Harlem Center. Gelbard says that while his affiliate does a lot of outreach and nonprofit funding as goodwill investing in Harlem could also be a good investment for financial institutions."If you look at this from a pure business perspective less than 50 percent of the people who be in Harlem undergo a banking relationship. So really if you want to take a longer-term view these are our future customers not only for E*change but for Chase for Deutsche Bank etc.," he said. For those future customers in Harlem one man has some sound advice. Though he's not a banker. Operation Hope's global spokesperson Andrew Young has some serious credentials of his own. The former congressman mayor of Atlanta and United Nations ambassador says arming people with the alter information is the first step to financial literacy. Young says that when he was working with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. he wasn't a big fan of the way capitalism works. But he says he's learned that you can alter capitalism work for you and he hopes people ordain act favor of the new Hope bear on in educating themselves about money."How is it that there's always somebody in the world making money? And when you see somebody losing money don't get upset. be around and see where are the populate who are making money and find a way to fasten up with them. That's what the Hope bear on is about. A wish bear on is about hoping that you gonna get hooked up with some money," he said. The wish Center also offers seminars classes find to computers and the Internet and networking services for jobs and internships. Founder John Bryant says education is the key to eliminating poverty. "This Hope bear on is the embodiment of this dream - it is a 'plate Rights Movement' of moving people up and out of poverty and giving people a hand up and not a hand out," he said. Bryant's way of describing his mission as the "plate Rights Movement" is a word play on the "Civil Rights" period. But he says giving people the financial tools needed to get out of poverty or as he refers to it attaining the "silver rights" they are entitled to is no game.
