"Trying out something new - Bujinkan Jiyu Dojo" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-23 12:18:31

So I’m up in Dublin now just over a month and looking for new things to do and try out. One of the lads at work Alex is setting up a which is an Authentic Japanese martial art. I was only here a week and Alex was off to Japan this year or some more training. So it’s nice to know that trainers still keep training. Looking into it some more as now I’m kind of interested in doing something active in the evenings other than the gym. Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is a modern Japanese Martial Art evolved from 9 authentic traditions created from the various warring periods of Japanese history. Even though it’s based on old martial art it’s evolved and now has a modern side to it. It includes multiple fighting skills including punching kicking throwing limb restraints rolling and breakfalling. Weapons skills including kenjutsu (long and short Japanese swords). Bojutsu (6 foot. 4 foot and 3 foot staff) and more. (I’m going to have a LOT OF FUN!!) Now I know I’ve never even tried to do any of this before so this is all going to be new to me and according to Alex this is not going to be a problem. It’s for anyone male or female so do try something new! So if you’re interested come along to St. Catherine’s Sport and Leisure Centre Marrowbone Dublin 8 on the Open day Early March. Classes are from 6-7:30pm on Fridays. If you want any more information bujinkanjiyu@live ie and include “open day” in the subject. Classes are €12. "Class Record: Advanced Rolling + Tenchi no Kata + Syllabus" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:37:55

The rolling we did was from Ichimonji no kamae but involved rolling to the straighten from this position over each shoulder. We also had to do some fast rolling. Tenchi No Kata from our Kukishin Ryu Dakentaijutsu Chuden No Gata has  an interesting variation of Oni Kudaki and this kata had us alter use of setting up uke such that when applied with a  kick this gyaku should alter uke while making them arrive awkwardly. We applied similar ideas with a hanbo and then against a long-range injure attack. The Dan evaluate syllabus involved another look at Kukishin Sojutsu with a particular emphasis on the swordman being aggresive. This made the spearman  be at distance and drawing out the swordsman -  a bit desire how the taijutsu from  earlier worked - go figure! Thought Provoker: If we cut down a kata from hit/hit/hit/kick/punch to just one hit,  should tori’s  kamae in this shortened version mimic the same position in the beat kata? "Beginners Course: Week 8 - Completion" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:42:40

We practiced our forward backward and sideways rolling. The sideways rolling was given an extra dimension by getting people to reach out to choose up an object. This encouraged them to stay low and to not focus on the turn too much. Everyone then practiced all 3 kata for the 9th Kyu evaluate. These 3 kata create the basic striking forms that are studied at all grades. We then looked at the 3 “throwing” techniques required for all beginnners. There was also a combination touch and wrist lock technique to  be practiced. This beginners course is now finished. The purpose of the course was to introduce people who are unfamiliar with Bujinkan to some  of the basic  priciples - relaxed whole body movement use of the feet ukemi or “receiving” techniques like rollin and breakfalling basic striking  and to undergo a general grasp of the Bujinkan methodology. All ungraded students are now elligible to take their 9th Kyu grade evaluate and free to be any class at the Bujinkan Meehan Dojo.
