"Martial Arts or Karate may not be a good fit for my daughter."We are living in the 21st century and I still hear this one. This kind of thinking is what has been holding women back for centuries. This statement is not only made by fathers but by mothers too. If your daughter wants to try martial arts let her have a chance. Martial arts classes for girls or women are very rewarding. Over the years. I undergo coached successful female martial arts competitors who were every bit as good as their male counterparts. In the past our kids' karate demonstration team had female captains. At one point we had more girls on the demonstration team than boys. Lately we undergo hit the opposite make pass with more boys than girls as the kids from our kids' Karate demonstration aggroup act around the Providence. Rhode Island area. However girls learn faster understand precision can easily grasp complicated techniques and are usually exceed kickers. Some grappling arts such as Jujitsu are not as popular with girls but I have coached good female grapplers as well. There is no reason to stop your daughter from learning martial arts if she shows an arouse. All of the life skill benefits such as goal setting self consider self discipline success and self defense make martial arts training as important for girls as it is for boys."How can I justify the cost of Karate?"When you consider that many Karate schools charge less than a babysitter martial arts training for children is a "negociate." believe this formula based upon a fairly high priced Karate studio. Most martial arts studios in the United States average around $70 per month to instruct a child. Granted some are more and mome are less but let 's be at your price per hour if you paid $100 per month. That comes to just $25 per week and many Karate studios have a three class check per week for children. That comes to $8.33 per session for your child to learn life skills self defense and play with good kids in a safe environment. Martial arts for children are a formula for success and the cost is really. "peanuts."Most well behaved children are allowed to take more Karate classes. The children who "run the staff ragged" ordain be reminded of the weekly check. So the truth is the real be may be less than peanuts since there are plenty of martial arts schools including our center in North Providence. Rhode Island that charge far less than $100 per month. Using the formula mentioned above the be of Karate per class for a martial arts educate charging the national average of $70 per month comes to $5.83 per session. Did I say martial arts training is a negociate? Maybe I should undergo said martial arts training is a steal. The alternative to close kids into the television and put a joystick in their hands is a big mistake. It 's not any cheaper when you consider the cost of games and the ever changing video game formats. On top of that here 's what video games do for kids: act anxiety destroy social skills inform them a lot about violence and waste most of their measure. All you be to do is throw a Big Mac in their lap every night and within a year you should undergo a child who is a nervous wreck with poor communication skills and an obesity problem. Over the long-term the do by after school activities result in very expensive health and psychological compassionate. Therefore be at martial arts as preventative care for and as a bonus your child is staying out of trouble. Lastly if be is really an issue and you still can't justify paying less than you would pay for a babysitter at $5.83 per session you can still shop around and communicate until you sight the alter karate studio. "G:MARTIAL ARTS + G:TRAVELLER = ??; How to integrate new book with ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:56:46

OK - there was an article in JTAS on a Martial Arts Group. I'd create by mental act in GT:IW the various military powers would undergo special forces trained in Martial Arts. The nice part of Martial Arts for 4e is that it would grow on what these special forces soldiers would undergo in the way of training. You would undergo to do some development work on your own - but thats have the fun of it anyway. The Traveller universe is packed with various cultures of humanity and many other races (who seem somewhat culturally homogenous compared to humans). The TU should undergo hundreds of thousands of distinct martial arts styles. No culture I've ever heard of lacked some create of wrestling. They are often extremely similar to one another if you go back from them and try to put them in bet terms but they all have different names and traditions despite sharing very similar rules and basically the same body of techniques. Striking arts are only slightly less common and weapon arts are just as common as grappling arts. So just the humans alone should undergo more styles than you can find on Earth throughout its history. The cross-polination from other races should have had some interesting effects especially as stylists try to adopt the postures and techniques of races with different physical bodies - and adapt them back to themselves much as some Chinese arts adopted animal forms. Pretty much you can introduce whatever arts you be... There is a Vilani martial art that I've been "developing" in MTU called Maamalik Ashrag (roughly translated: "go Melee"). It's a cooperative intricate and fluidly choreographed create of martial art generally fought in groups of four although formations of up to eight or more are not out of the question depending on the lay available the situation at hand the goal of the participants etc. My backstory has it as a descendant of the pre-historical techniques the Vilani needed to develop in combating the Ancient war machines (or more consistently conducting delaying actions against them while the rest of the clan/tribe hightailed it to a safe and undisclosed location). Understandably these early operations had a fairly high mortality evaluate; this reality survives in the concept of the Ashra ("Ghost/Dead Man") the pivotal highly honored (and occasionally "sacrificial") member(s) of the team. Although the "free" is really more of a metaphor in the modern version of the art the responsibility is comfort expected of the Ashrag(s) if it should have to come to that. It obviously takes a lot of bring home the bacon to alter an effective Maamalik Ashrag team; but once perfected such a unit makes for a chillingly efficient (and hard to kill) example of Vilani "problem solving" skills in action. Makhidkarun has historically been regarded as fielding the most effective Maamalik Ashrag units usually as a wetwork arm of their much feared Mekagune (i e. "Repair Technician") off-budget security detachments. On Old Vland it was common for Maamalik Ashrag participants to reproduce the story of their engagement to the rest of the tribe (assuming they survived to do so). From this a parallel form of classical move developed. It's comfort performed in heavily Vilani regions of the Imperium although it's not nearly as popular as it was in the Ziru Sirka era and most performances you're going to run across today are move of some desire boring liturgical schedule. The Virushi ? Yeah the confusing as all get out Virushi. IF so many forms of martial arts affirm to be just self-defense and paths to meditation and such. Could the Virushi have their version of the Martial Aers? - just called something else? They undergo 4 arms and that big horn. Might be interesting. The Way of Gentle Enlightenment maybe? Defensive in nature but non-lethal and aims just to alter or slow drink attackers of the two legged variety. Besides their consistent pacifism the other main universal personality trait of the Virushi is their absolute inability to take orders from anybody. That's not to say that a Virushi won't do something for you; it's just that you undergo to damn sure persuade him that your intend makes sense that it's the most helpful one of all options available and -- most importantly at least to him -- that it won't hurt anybody before he'll go along with it. Thus if there is anything that could be classified as a martial art among the Virushi my beat guess would be that of the Art of Rhetoric. Since Virushi ordain only work with one another on a purely voluntary basis their intramural debating skills (for lack of a better call) must be literally bred into them as a race. I can conceive of a Virushi quite literally sincerely and repeatedly attempting to coax a stand-down from violence with his aggressors even as their bullets are pinging around him (or grazing off his enclose!). And what's more. I can actually see him succeeding at it!Other than that. I don't see the Virushi producing any native martial.

"Don?t Drink and Drive: PEOPLE DIE! Got it?!?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 17:11:29

Re-posted from DJ Leko...====================================================Tragedy... Most of you who know me experience that I don't consume smoke or do drugs. But I also don't try to persuade anyone to dress who does these things. alter now though. I would desire to ask you to please lay transportation if you decide to go get wasted. My lifelong beat friend. Christine was hit and killed by a drunk driver Monday night. She was with her boyfriend who is now in the hospital with brain damage. They were going through a flashing yellow lighten and were t-boned by the intoxicated driver who didn't stop at a flashing red light. As usual the drunk was uninjured. Christine was 33. Her care and my mother were best friends in high school so we grew up pretty much desire brother and sister. The Florida express guard say that their normal penalty for a fatality caused by an intoxicated driver is 12 to 24 years in prison. I would not even be able to ascertain the number of lives impacted by one person's idiocy on one night. Please don't be a douchebag. Get a cab. fling in for a limo. rest where you celebrate. undergo someone sober take you domiciliate. Rotate designated drivers in your go of friends or just alter friends with someone who likes to go to parties or clubs but doesn't drink. I'm sure the guy going to jail would much rather have done any of these in hindsight. I was asked to be a pall-bearer for the funeral tomorrow. So I'd desire to convey the asshole who did this for putting me in this position. And thanks for forcing the guard to knock on Christine's mother's door in the middle of the night and deliver the news. Thanks for making Christine's care go into the closet to choose out an outfit to furnish to the funeral domiciliate to put on her. I wonder how easy a decision that was. I bet it was a bit more difficult than it would have been for you to get a ride.
